New Oral History Collections: January 2017

We’re highlighting several of our newly available oral history collections!

Macias, Rometo (Rummy), 1922-. Oral History Interview, 2015. SMHC Manuscript Collection 252. http://lib.mnsu.edu/archives/fa/smhc/smhc252.html

The Macias collection consists of an audio DVD, a video DVD, and a biographical form for an oral history interview conducted between Macias, Paul Allen, and Daardi Sizemore in 2015. In this interview, Macias talks about his career at Minnesota State University as Wrestling Coach.

Brock, Georgene, 1937-. Oral History Interview, 2016. SMHC Manuscript Collection 254. http://lib.mnsu.edu/archives/fa/smhc/smhc254.html

The Brock collection consists of an audio CD and a biographical form for an oral history interview conducted between Brock, Paul Allen, and Daardi Sizemore in 2016. In this interview, Brock talks about her career at Minnesota State University Mankato as a faculty member, intermural advisor, coach, and then women’s athletics director. Brock retired in 1998 after 34 years at Minnesota State Mankato.

Zonta Club of Mankato. Oral Histories, 2009. SHMC Manuscript Collection 256. http://lib.mnsu.edu/archives/fa/smhc/smhc256.html

The Zonta Club Oral Histories include five interviews from members in the Zonta Club of Mankato. Interviews were conducted by students from Susan Freeman’s Women’s Studies class. Aspects covered in the interviews are childhood, college, professional careers, sex discrimination and their personal experience as a member of the Zonta Club of Mankato.

The collection contains interviews from women with professional jobs such as in the Blue Earth County Attorney’s Office, in the New York Life Insurance company, as Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists, were entrepreneurs or as managers. The interviews discuss the difficulty in entering into male dominated fields, as well as attitudes towards gender in the workplace. In addition, the interviewees discuss their involvement in the Zonta organization.

Gushwa, Prudence J., 1941- Oral History Interview and Collection, 2009. SMHC Manuscript Collection 1807. http://lib.mnsu.edu/archives/fa/smhc/smhc1807.html

The Prudence J. Gushwa collection consists of an audio CD, Gushwa’s resume, and a biographical form and interview outline of an oral history interview conducted between Gushwa and Daardi Sizemore in August 2009. In this interview, Gushwa talks about her family, her experience as a student at Mankato State University, and her experience as an Educational Leadership Department faculty member at Minnesota State University.
